Brown Hill Estate

Great wine made in the vineyard

With a close connection to Kalgoorlie, the vineyard landscape reminded Jim and Gwen of their childhood stomping grounds around the gold mines of Kalgoorlie. Brown Hill was the claim that made the Golden Mile famous and Jim remembers going with his father to water their vegetable patch by diverting water from the old Brown Hill mine site. Four generations of Baileys lived in the Goldfields with close ties to Brown Hill, so it seemed only natural to give the winery the same name.

Brookwood Estate

Great value small-batch wines

Brookwood Estate was born from a combination of creativity and a passion for agriculture after a discussion over a winery lunch in the winter of 1995. Six months after considering a sea change to Margaret River Trevor and Lyn Mann relocated to the famous wine region in pursuit of an adventure into Viticulture. The only experience the pair had in the field of wine making and viticulture was sampling plenty of the product. They had a vision and believed in themselves; possibly not knowing the full extent of their undertaking but sure of the end reward.

The result was huge learning curve, the vineyard was planted in September 1996 and here-in began the journey. Working in other industries to support their new venture Trevor and Lyn learned by being naturally inquisitive, reading, asking and learning as they met the challenge that they had set themselves. Learning so much about themselves and their new chosen industry along the way.

The winemaking philosophy behind the Driftwood wines is one of simplicity – quality wines are made in the vineyard. While winemaking can have a positive input, having premium quality fruit is essential. This is why Driftwood Estate is so fortunate to be located in one of the greatest viticultural areas in the world, sourcing super premium fruit year in year out. With premium quality fruit, our wine making philosophy is all about protecting and expressing the qualities found in the grapes, so that the wine lover can enjoy the pure, varietal and regional flavours from the Wilyabrup sub-region of Margaret River.

Ferguson Farmstay is located in the beautiful Ferguson Valley, only 30 minutes’ drive from Bunbury and less than two hours’ drive south of Perth. The chalets and a function centre are situated on top of the undulating Darling ranges, giving spectacular views of farmland and vineyards all the way to the Bunbury coast. If you look closely, you might even spot a ship docking in the Bunbury harbour.
